Kingsthorpe is a rural town about 21km northwest of the Toowoomba CBD, named after the King brothers who held the Gowrie pastoral run, with Mount Kingsthorpe rising to 600m above it. It has grown steadily — about 1,870 people in 2016 and 2,160 by 2021 — so newer homes now sit alongside the older town.
